exchiesetta is a small chapel situated in the heart of Polignano a Mare overlooking the Adriatic sea. Since 2012, the chapel has offered young and international artists the opportunity to show and promote their work in its unique space. Polignano a Mare is a small town of ancient origins. It is a fishing village situated in the east of the Italian region of Puglia, parked on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Adriatic Sea. Its unique geographical location has made it a particularly interesting place for nature and landscape and has made it become a strategic point of traffic between East and West and the sea and inland.
Polignano a Mare is famous for its charm, views and artistic heritage.
It is visited every year by tourists from Italy and all over the world, wanting to experience the culture and food it has to offer. It is also famous for two remarkable artists: one is the great Domenico Modugno, who wrote and sang numerous classic songs, including the huge international hit, Volare (originally entitled Nel Blu Dipinto di Blu), famously also sung by Dean Martin.
Polignano a Mare is also the birthplace of Pino Pascali who was one of the most important Italian artists of the 1960s from Arte Povera. Pascali died in Rome in 1968 in a motorbike accident at the age of 33. To continue his legacy, this chapel was in fact used in the 70’s by the family of Pino Pascali to exhibit works by Pascali’s friends such as Jannis Kounellis, Maurizio Mochetti, Vettor Pisani, Vincenzo Agnetti. Having lost its function for a number of years, the idea is to now revamp the space and bring it back to its long lost artistic splendour.
